in the Winter of 1775

Antoine Lacharité was born on December 4, 1760, at Maskinongé, Québec, Canada

Antoine continues using the name of Lampron

As with his uncle Claude before him, Antoine Lacharité continues to use the dit name of Lampron. He apparently used the name Lacharité in the 1700's but switched to Lampron dit Lacharité in the early 1800's, and many times used Lampron only in the 1800's.

Invasion of Canada (1775)

When Antoine turned 15 years old, the famous Battle of Quebec

was in full force. A military expedition led by Colonel Benedict Arnold, under the command of General George Washington, traveled through Maine by way of the Kennebunk river up to Canada in a planned attack on the British. French Canadians did not rally to the side of the Americans as George Washington had expected.

Death of General Montgomery during the attack on Quebec

The Battle of Quebec 1775

Battle: QUEBEC

War:
American Revolution

Date: 31st December 1775

Place: Quebec, Canada.

Combatants: American troops attacked a force comprised of British recruits and Canadian volunteers.

By the time Antoine was 23 years old, the American Revolution had ended. After the war, tension continued between Britain and the colonies. Thousands of United Empire Loyalists (loyal to the Crown) were expelled from the United States. Some returned to England, but most moved northward into Nova Scotia.

Antoine continued to farm the land as his father before him, and was 26 years old by the time he married. His wife was Madeleine Desserres. They were married on August 21, 1786, she was then 15 years old. Together, they had 12 children, all boys.

On February 2, 1798, one year before the end of the French Revolution in Europe, Madeleine gave birth to Amable Lampron, dit Lacharité in Maskinongé, Québec, Canada.

One year later, Napoleon Bonaparte entered Paris and was crowned First Consul. In 1804 he took the title of emperor Napoleon I. He took the crown from the Pope and placed it on his head himself, thereby directly challenging the authority of the church. Napoleon created a powerful central administration, and engaged in many military campaigns that allowed him to expand his empire.

Antoine Lampron would never see the country where his roots were first established and he also knew that France would never again rule Canada.

Antoine Lampron dit Lacharité died in January of 1850 in  Yamachiche, St. Maurice, Québec, Canada. He was 90 years old.
