Édifice La Fabrique (Édifice Lampron, also called the Old Lampron Building), Trois-Rivières, Québec.
Heritage Designation:
The Édifice La Fabrique (édifice Lampron or the Old Lampron Building), designated a historical monument by the City of Trois-Rivières in 2004, is an industrial building erected in 1916. This brick-faced building is L-shaped, with a slightly arched roofline and generous openings over its four levels.
Historical Background and Use
The heritage value of the Édifice La Fabrique stems first from its unique character, multi-functional nature and transitional architecture. The Édifice La Fabrique is in fact the last surviving example of turn of the twentieth century industrial architecture in Trois-Rivières. Built by the city, the building offered space to several businesses, including the Balcer Glove Manufacturing Company, an important contributor to the economic development of the region. The interior spaces of the building are meant to adapt to the needs of the various businesses that might occupy it.
Proposed New Use and Its Impact
The owner of the building, 9123-5143 Québec Inc., will rehabilitate it and convert it into a hotel (the Hôtel Balcer) featuring 50 rooms with private access, a dining room and seven meeting rooms.
Estimated Costs and Government of Canada's Contribution
Total project costs are $6,471,374.50. Government of Canada's contribution could reach $1,000,000.

Italian Sandwiches - In a world of hoagies, heroes, grinders and submarines, Portland, Maine is known as the birthplace of the Italian sandwich. It is considered Maine’s signature sandwich. Simply known as “Italians” to the people living in Maine. Personally, I think the best Italians are made in Westbrook. Especially when they were made at the old Lamprons Sandwich Shop on 57 Bridge St., Westbrook, Maine, back in the 70"s.Just grabbing a soda on the run?
